Calcite

Calcite is an appropriate material to use for a seer stone, because it is symbolic of light flowing through the coarsest form of matter on earth, the dead carcasses of sea creatures, piled one atop the other through vast ages of time. The bodies of the dead lie, crushing in upon each other for generation after generation, until the whole mess solidifies, and becomes the most common rock on the face of the earth, limestone.

In some rare occasions, an anomaly occurs in the limestone, and it begins to crystallize. More and more adjoining crystals line up together, and eventually, you get a perfect crystalline structure growing out of the bodies of the dead. This gathering together of a beautiful crystal out of the chaos and death that surrounds it, is symbolic of the gathering of a zionic people in the midst of the gadianton robbers. A distinct separation of the righteous from the wicked.

In most cases, the resulting crystal is white, and opaque, but once in a great while, the crystal casts all impurity out of itself, and it grows crystalline clear. Any light entering it is magnified, and comes out as an exact duplicate of itself, having been multiplied by the calcite. Truly light flows in and through such a crystal. If the bodies of dead creatures can be such a conduit for light, then surely the body of a still living creature can be purified in like manner to magnify heavenly light.
