1. And now I, Moroni, continue with the sacred account which the Lord my God hath preserved in mine hands and caused me to duplicate for purposes known to him.
2. And I Moroni bear witness that these sacred truths have been withheld from my people, save for only the very elect.
3. For they are reserved for the last times, to cause a division between the seed of the faithful and the faithless seed.
4. It hath been given into my hand through the mercy of Yahweh, inasmuch as I have wept many tears for a knowledge of the same.
5. Those that see it in the last days shall weep as I have wept, for those days shall be as dark as these days.
6. And those times shall be glorious for the house of Israel, whereas these are ones of sorrow; thus I continue.
